A Look at Their Activities
Overview
Hi! We are the UTokyo Women’s Hockey Club! Have you heard of field hockey before? Many people don’t know what kind of sport it is, so here are a few facts to help you understand it better!
In many ways, it resembles soccer. We play on a large field with artificial grass, and there are two teams, each with eleven players. Then, there’s the most crucial part—we use sticks to dribble and pass the ball, and getting the ball into the net means scoring a goal! It’s a fast-paced and dynamic sport.
We practice three times a week (Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays). Don’t worry if you don’t have any experience in field hockey or sports in general! Most of our members started their hockey journey at university. A willingness to learn and determination are enough to help you progress quickly.
The main idea guiding us through days of intense practice is captured in our motto: “If I am going to do it, I will win. If I’m going to do it, I will enjoy it.” In our commitment to hockey, we aim for both success and enjoyment in the process of getting better. Right now, our primary goal is to win the second division of the Kanto League and earn promotion to the first division.
Although we all work toward the same goal, our team includes people from various backgrounds: students from overseas, inexperienced athletes, and people from rural areas. Despite these differences, our team is characterized by a friendly atmosphere that transcends hierarchical structures. We often go out to eat together after practice!
If you want to:
- try something new,
- stay physically active,
- make new friends at university, we’d be happy to welcome you to our team!
We’ll be waiting for you at the trial practice! :)
