Philosophy/guiding principles
‘topos’ means “place” in Greek. It aims to be a place for more LGBTQ+ people and people who think they might be LGBTQ+. It is a safe and secure place where people do not have to reveal anything about themselves within the organisation and where the protection of their privacy is important.
History.
Established in 2011. Before the Corona Disaster, its main activities were lunch meetings at the Komaba and Hongo campuses. In order to be a place for more university and postgraduate students, it became an intercollegiate club in 2019.
How many members leave the activity in a year?
Around 60%.
How much does the amount of commitment vary between members?
Some members only attend one of the events, either online or in person.
About 20 out of 70 members regularly attend social events.
The difference in participation rates is not a particular problem, as we believe that freedom of participation is a desirable feature of a place to be.

We are the Tatekan Club, dedicated to creating "Tatekans" (Japanese signboards). If you've visited Komaba Campus, you've likely noticed many Tatekans around, and some of them were made by us! We meet several times a month to paint and craft these signboards. If you have a message you'd like to share through a Tatekan, feel free to join us! We warmly welcome international students. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact us on X (formerly Twitter) at @tatekan_UT (DMs are open).
