Philosophy/guiding principles
‘topos’ means “place” in Greek. It aims to be a place for more LGBTQ+ people and people who think they might be LGBTQ+. It is a safe and secure place where people do not have to reveal anything about themselves within the organisation and where the protection of their privacy is important.
History.
Established in 2011. Before the Corona Disaster, its main activities were lunch meetings at the Komaba and Hongo campuses. In order to be a place for more university and postgraduate students, it became an intercollegiate club in 2019.
How many members leave the activity in a year?
Around 60%.
How much does the amount of commitment vary between members?
Some members only attend one of the events, either online or in person.
About 20 out of 70 members regularly attend social events.
The difference in participation rates is not a particular problem, as we believe that freedom of participation is a desirable feature of a place to be.

academic clubs/circles for international students
We play a kind of Japanese music called "Edo nagauta" with shamisen, a traditional Japanese musical instrument, and singing. Most members were begginer when they started it. The teachers offer free practice, so very little money is necessary as activity costs. We also have a club room in the Komaba Campus, where students can practice on their own. We are active jointly with the International Christian University (ICU) Nagauta Kenkyukai, and we hold a joint concert every December in which all first-year students also perform. If you are interested in our activities, please visit our SNS!
FKEN(Folksong Kenkyukai) is a band circle that welcomes members regardless of the term, grade, or music experience. You can share interest in all genres of music(Alternative, Post-punk, Shoegaze, Post-hardcore, etc…). We hold concerts once a month where you can play songs from any band, including FKEN members’ own bands. Let’s share great music experience and enjoy band together!
Since: 1949~1950 Mission: Defend all-members university autonomy and offer walfare benefits from students’ perspective.
